Uttar Pradesh New & Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) and The Nature Conservancy (TNC) India will collaborate to identify land parcels for large-scale renewable energy projects in the state. They will also collaborate on policy and research related to the low-impact siting of utility-scale solar and wind projects.

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) India will deploy a customized SiteRight tool for Uttar Pradesh, which will help in selecting suitable locations for solar and wind projects while preventing adverse impacts to the environment.

The MoU for this collaboration was recently signed between Uttar Pradesh New & Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) and TNC India.

“The state [of Uttar Pradesh] has committed to achieving 14,000 MW of utility-scale solar projects by 2027 and identifying land parcels for these utility-scale solar projects considering social and environmental factors is critical to achieve renewable energy targets of the state in a time-bound manner,” said Anupam Shukla, director-UPNEDA and special secretary, Energy Department, Govt of Uttar Pradesh. “This collaboration’s main goal is to promote socially and environmentally responsible development of renewable energy projects across Uttar Pradesh, including estimating potential opportunities for floating solar and developing science-based sustainable business models for promoting decentralized solar projects in the state.”

“The goal of this partnership is to ensure that renewable energy projects are designed and implemented in a way that minimizes their environmental impact while still meeting the energy needs of the region and the SiteRight tool is important in this aspect because it enables renewable energy developers to make informed decisions about the location of their projects. This, in turn, can help mitigate negative environmental and social impacts,” said Annapurna Vancheswaran, managing director, TNC India.
