Madhya Pradesh to launch three new floating solar projects soon

The state will launch three floating solar projects worth INR 7,500 crore ($919 million). The new projects will be in addition to a 600 MW plant currently under development at Omkareshwar reservoir.

Madhya Pradesh is preparing to supply 50% of India’s 2030 target of 500 GW of renewable energy, said Madhya Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Minister Hardeep Singh Dang at the ongoing Global Investors Summit in the state. 

The State has more than 60 GW of solar and about 5 GW of wind power generation projects installed and under implementation. And the ongoing Investors Summit saw the signing of MoUs worth INR 16,000 crore in the renewable energy session. 

Currently, Madhya Pradesh has several big-scale solar projects under implementation. A 600 MW floating solar project is being developed at Omkareshwar reservoir. The project is expected to start producing electricity by September. Work on three other floating projects worth INR 7,500 crore will be started soon in the state, said Dang. 

By September 2023, the 1.5 GW Agar-Shajapur-Neemuch solar project will also become operational. And by 2025, 1.4 GW of solar park in Morena and 950 MW of hybrid RE park with energy storage in Chhatarpur will be started.
