The Indian multinational EPC provider has secured the civil and hydromechanical works for a 10 GWh pumped storage project from renewables developer Greenko. The project is coming up in Madhya Pradesh.

Larsen & Toubro’s heavy civil infrastructure business has secured an order from renewables developer Greenko group to develop an off-stream pumped storage project in Madhya Pradesh.

Greenko is developing the Gandhisagar pumped storage project with a storage capacity of 10,080 MWh.

A consortium led by Larsen & Toubro will execute the civil and hydromechanical works of the project under a timeline of 30 months.

“Upon completion, the project will be one of the largest clean energy projects of its kind in India,” stated Larsen & Toubro.

The project will comprise two reservoirs, the existing Gandhi Sagar reservoir as the lower reservoir and an upper reservoir to be constructed near Khemla block village (about 75 km from Neemuch).

“The project involves constructing an upper dam (to form the upper reservoir), intake structure with approach channel, steel lined buried penstock/pressure shaft (vertical and horizontal), surface powerhouse, draft tube tunnel, tailrace outlet structure, tailrace channel, etc,” stated Larsen & Toubro.
