Indian solar market leaders in 2021

ReNew Power was the top utility-scale solar developer in 2021, commissioning the largest amount of capacity. Tata Power Solar led in rooftop solar installations, accounting for 20% of total annual additions. 

ReNew Power has ranked as India’s leading utility-scale solar developer in 2021 in annual rankings released by Mercom India. The developer claimed the top spot by commissioning the biggest chunk of the cumulative 8.3 GW utility-scale solar installed in India during the year, followed by Adani Green.

The Mercom report covers market share and shipment rankings across the Indian solar supply chain for calendar year 2021. India added a record 10 GW of new solar capacity in 2021, 210% up from the previous year. According to the report, utility-scale projects accounted for 83% (8.3 GW) of total installations for the year.

Rooftop solar installations (at 1.7 GW) were 138% up year on year. Tata Power Solar led the list of rooftop solar installers, accounting for 20% of total annual additions. 

Companies offering solar engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services saw many projects moving to 2021 from the previous year. Sterling & Wilson topped the list of EPC providers during the year. It was closely followed by Siemens Gamesa and Tata Power Solar.

Chinese manufacturer Sungrow was India’s biggest solar inverter supplier during the year, and it also topped in string inverter shipments. Sineng Electric, its Chinese counterpart, led in central inverter shipments.

Solar imports soared 641% year on year in 2021. China’s Longi Solar was the leading module supplier to India for the second consecutive year. One Indian module manufacturer made it to the top five.

China’s Arctech Solar ranked as India’s biggest solar tracker supplier. Delhi-based SNS Corp. led the list of top solar mounting structure suppliers for the second consecutive year, accounting for 30% of the total market.
